ABOUT:

Carmala Walgren is a mother, writer, lawyer, mental health advocate, and the wife of former U.S. Congressman Doug Walgren (D-PA).  She was deeply involved in the establishment of The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and served as one of the original founders and as the first President of the “Friends of the Children’s Inn at NIH”.

The Children’s Inn at the NIH works to provide a supportive residence for families to stay while children undergo treatment at the NIH.  It has provided a free home-like environment without the hardships and expense of living in a hotel for thousands of families from all over the world.

“Here’s How Much I Love You” is Carmala’s first children’s book. She wrote it when her children were very young and now she enjoys reading it to her grandchildren. A portion of the proceeds of the book will benefit The Children’s Inn at NIH.

In her role as a public speaker and advocate on mental health issues, she writes articles on depression and has been interviewed as an advocate on numerous television, podcast, radio, and online publications.
